Watermill “Molino de la Horcajada”

The watermill “Molino de la Horcajada” dates from the XV century. As the name suggests, the watermill belonged to D. García Álvarez de Toledo, son of the first Duke of Alfa. The watermill has been rebuilt, modified, restored, and expanded many times since then. Although the watermill still functions, the building is now mainly used as a unique and romantic holiday residence.

On the first floor of the house there is a small living and dining room with a kitchenette and 5 bedrooms, each with en-suite bathroom. All rooms are equipped with an electric heating system. During the cold months of the year, the wood burning stove in the living room should be lit to give some extra warmth and cosiness.

The original mechanism of the mill can still be admired on the ground floor. There is also a large living room with kitchen and a veranda. In the cold winter months, this floor can be heated with a fireplace and a special biomass stove.

In summer the old 80 cm thick stone walls keep the temperature in the house very pleasant and comfortable. A dip in the natural pool, a nap in the hammock, with the sound of the river water and the tranquillity of this natural location, make the watermill the perfect place to relax from the stress of everyday life.

The house is situated in an idyllic spot on the bank of the river Lozoya, off the beaten track, about 1 km from the public road and about 3 km from the nearest town. A great location for nature lovers, with many hiking trails, most of them of Roman origin. A short distance from Madrid, Segovia, La Granja, Pedraza and many other places of cultural and historical interest, it is also a good starting point for day trips and excursions.
